The Big Shabbat
Shabbat before Pesach
The Great Shabbat
One of the women in my rosh chodesh groups alerted us to the date; today is the Shabbat before Passover, a "big" Shabbat. But what makes this Shabbat different from all other Shabbats? (other than the fact that it's the LAST SHABBAT WITH CHALLAH FOR A WEEK!) It's considered the Shabbat of great miracles. On this night Moses commands the Jewish people to paint the doorposts of their homes with lamb's blood. On this Shabbat the rabbis tended to give long sermons on all of the laws of Pesach, which made it a lengthy service. Lastly, the Haftorah portion for this Shabbat speaks of the coming of the Moshiach. (thanks, Chabad)
As much as I'd love to celebrate this Shabbes in a big way with lots of delicious Challah, I'll be working tonight. The only benefit is that it's the last time I'll have to work on Shabbat and for that I'm grateful.
Shabbat Shalom, y'all. Make it big.
